About Godiva

Godiva was founded in 1926 by Joseph Draps and his family in Brussels, Belgium. The company got its name from the legend of Lady Godiva. Their second location was opened in Paris, France in 1958. By 1966, their products were being sold at shopping centers located in the United States, and the company was sold to the Campbell Soup Company the next year. Their first store in the United States was opened on Fifth Avenue in New York City in 1972.

Godiva flourished in the subsequent years, and made annual sales of around $500 million by 2007. However, the Campbell Soup Company began exploring divestiture and other ownership options regarding Godiva, citing that "premium chocolate business [did] not fit with Campbell's strategic focus on simple meals". In December of that year, Godiva was sold to Yıldız Holding, a Turkish conglomerate based in Istanbul. They were acquired for a total of $850 million. Now, Godiva has opened over 450 stores across the globe.
