Applebee’s is a national chain of casual dining restaurants, serving classic American food in a warm, homey, and welcoming setting. They mainly focuses on serving up traditional American dishes such as salads, seafood, chicken, pasta, burgers, and riblets (the latter which has been noted to be Applebee’s signature dish). Applebee’s locations also usually feature a bar segment in their restaurant which serves alcoholic drinks to their patrons of legal drinking age.

The first Applebee’s chain was started by Bill and T. J. Palmer. They first opened for business in Decatur, Georgia near the end of the year in 1980. The chain was soon sold to W. R. Grace and Company in 1983 after the opening of the second Applebee’s location but Bill Palmer was appointed president of the Applebee’s division, thus giving him some control of his creation. Three years after the purchase in 1986, the name was then changed to Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, reflecting the original vision Palmer had intended the restaurant to have and in 1988, Applebee’s International Inc. became the restaurant's main franchiser. In recent years, Applebee’s International Inc. was bought by IHOP Corp. for a grand total of $2 billion dollars.
