Edible Arrangements is known for selling many different fruit-based gifts, and combines the idea of a fruit basket with that of a floral arrangement. The founders, Tariq Farid and Kamran Farid, established the first location in 1999 in East Haven, Connecticut. As they solidified important aspects of the business such as management and training, they began the franchising process in 2001. Their first franchise location officially opened in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Since then, the brand has created master franchise agreements in Hong Kong and Rome, and continued to expand across the United States. At the end of 2009, they had opened 74 new locations and made franchise agreements for over 85 stores, with a total of 940 locations. Most of their expansion occurred in the Midwest and in Texas.
