Founder’s Story

As the name would suggest, Ben & Jerry's was started by two childhood friends named Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. They were initially going to open a bagel shop but decided to open an ice cream shop instead. They opened their first ice cream shop in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, in 1978. Now, there are more than 500 Ben & Jerry's shops worldwide, available in 33 different countries.
