BuyVia Survey Reveals Web Surfing, Email and Gaming Are Most Popular Uses for Tablets

Today BuyVia released our Tablet Survey results revealing that the top three functions consumers use their tablets for are web surfing, email and games.  The three functions consumers use the least are video conferencing, taking pictures/videos and listening to music. As the tablet market continues to expand, it’s interesting to see how consumers are interacting with their devices and which devices they choose for different things.

Our survey found that the majority (65%) of survey respondents own a tablet, including the iPad, Kindle Fire, Google Nexus or Samsung Galaxy Note, 23% own an e-Reader, including the basic Amazon Kindle or Nook, and 27% do not own a tablet or an e-reader. To see additional survey results, be sure to check out the official press release.

While full function web/app-enabled tablets like the iPad dominate the tablet market, e-Readers remain popular for avid readers who crave a single purpose device. As Barnes and Noble and Amazon bridge the gap between e-Readers and tablet devices with the Nook and Kindle Fire, will traditional e-Readers remain popular? Or will the shift to more affordable, multi-use internet-enabled devices eventually eliminate the demand for basic e-Readers?

What do you think? If you own a tablet or an e-Reader, why did you choose your specific device?  If you own a tablet, what features do you use the most? Let us know in the comments section, or via Facebook or Twitter!
